Sport of Kings

Wellocks recently had the honour of supporting the Tiffany & Co Royal Charity Polo Cup event held in July, which raised over £120,000 for the Henry Van Straubenzee Memorial Fund and Tusk Trust. Both charities work with poor communities in Uganda and are supported by HRH Prince William, The Duke of Cambridge who played in the cup event.

Sophie Michell, executive chef, Belgraves Hotel and Gorgeous Kitchen Heathrow, cooked a spread suitably fit for a king – canapés, a fine dining lunch and fabulous afternoon tea – with fresh ingredients supplied by Wellocks. The menu for 500 included dishes such as labneh, pickled beetroot, heirloom carrot and truffle honey salad, roast rump of lamb and pea puree, micro mint and pomegranate jus, and glazed lemon tart.

The event was held at Watership Down, the Berkshire estate owned by Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, and we were proud to see a star-studded crowd tucking into the deliciously fresh food – including Aron Harilela, Belgraves’ owner who played on Prince William’s team. Other celebrity guests enjoying the hospitality on the day included Nicole Scherzinger, Amy Molyneaux, Lottie Moss and chefs Tess Ward and Melissa Hemsley.

The Duke of Cambridge’s pony Fantasia was named best horse, while polo pin-up Nacho Figueras was man of the match.
