A huge congratulations to our supplier, Carroll’s Heritage Potatoes from Tiptoe Farm in Cornhill-on-Tweed, who has been named ‘Arable Innovator of the Year 2015’ in the British Farm Awards.The award, sponsored by Certis, celebrates a progressive and forward thinking approach to arable farming.
Tiptoe Farm, in the special conservation area of the River Till Valley, grows its produce in the most environmentally friendly way and its ethos is to grow with the countryside. The farm has adopted a system of farming that balances the needs of consumers with the enhancement of the environment.
British Farm’s judges said that: “Anthony and Lucy Carroll demonstrate a high level of innovation both in variety choice and marketing, which they have total control over. They are enthusiastic about what they do and have clearly thought about the supply chain from start to finish.”
Carroll’s Heritage Potatoes supply 17 unique varieties of potatoes full of excellent flavours, textures, colours and shapes like the salad blue, aura, red king edward, shetland black, Mr Little’s yetholm gypsy, mayan gold, colleen, pink fir apple, red emmalie, highland burgundy and violetta.
Anthony Carroll said, “It feels amazing to have won. The arable sector is going through a tough time at the moment. You’re up against world prices. You can set up a business which you can drive forward and you can set the prices and have direct contact with people and I think that puts sustainability into the business.”
